The night of Tuesday 29 October left an indelible scar on Valencia. The DANA became an unstoppable force, bringing with it devastating destruction that changed, in a matter of hours, the lives of thousands of people.
At YOUNG, we deeply feel the impact of this tragedy, especially in a city, which we consider much more than our place of work. For this reason, we want to do more than just express our support. We want to make a difference and actively contribute to the recovery of our community. The destruction has left many families homeless, while others have seen what little they had disappeared.
The DANA not only devastated houses and streets; it also took away the memories and stability of thousands of people. In these moments of uncertainty, it is crucial to remember that solidarity and empathy are the most powerful tools to rebuild what the storm has tried to take away.
To respond to this emergency, we have joined the initiative driven by Lize van Niekerk, who has launched a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe with the aim of covering the most urgent needs of the people affected. Lize, who has been in Valencia for years, has expressed a genuine love for the city and its people.
“I fell in love with this city and its people. To help in any way I can, I have created this campaign, and I assure you that every euro will go directly to those who need it”.
LIZE VAN NIERKERK
Her personal commitment, coupled with the support of volunteers, ensures that every donation will translate into direct and tangible help for families who are going through difficult times.
At the moment, 100% of the proceeds are going to basic necessities, such as cleaning products, wellington boots and pressure washers, to facilitate the clean-up and recovery of the affected areas.
However, as needs change, aid will be adjusted to respond as effectively as possible. Every euro, every contribution, becomes a direct resource for those who need it most.
At YOUNG, we have made an initial donation of €10,000 to support this effort. However, we are aware that, given the magnitude of this crisis, every contribution counts and can make a significant difference.
That is why we want to make noise and invite our community to join this cause by doing their bit. No matter the size of the contribution, every gesture is a sign of hope for those who need a fresh start.
At times like this, it is crucial to remember that we are not alone. Valencia is a strong city, and together we can help lift communities, offering not only material aid, but also the hope that the future can be rebuilt.
The DANA has been a hard blow, but with everyone’s support, healing is possible. If you want to join this cause, you can do so through the link to the GoFundMe campaign: https://gofund.me/d32bb8fe
Every gesture counts and, together, we can give a little light back to those who have lost it. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your solidarity and support in these difficult times.
